Rains and waterfalls of Judean desert
Judean desert is quite popular among tourists since its facing the Dead Sea to which everyone makes a visit . Those who enjoyed the thrills of the Dead Sea will have passed by the Judean desert for sure. There are so many amazing attractions to visit in the Judean desert: Masada, Ein Gedi etc.
Typically any time of the year, Judean desert is a dry mountain terrain. But during our visit, while in the beautiful oasis of Ein Gedi, we had slight showers. Because this can typical cause flash floods we were asked to move out within 1 hour after we entered. After Ein Gedi, we went to En Gedi Spa, and reveled in our Dead Sea experience for around 3 hours as detailed in floating experience of Dead Sea.
Meanwhile, the other side of the Judean desert got more rains and resulted in ephemeral waterfalls. The discharge of the waterfalls was great with swollen streams plummeting from great heights. The drive back in Route 90 towards Jerusalem was extremely scenic, with waterfalls for almost every mile of the Judean desert. In general waterfalls are their best after heavy rains or snow melts and more so those secret falls, that only appear after heavy downpours. Our private tour guide Tova, who has been giving tours for more than 30 years told us that she has never seen anything like this in all those 30 years. We felt truly blessed to witness this amazing rare phenomenon.
