Church of Pater Noster
The Church of the Pater Noster is a church located on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
At the Church of Pater Noster on the Mount of Olives, Christians recall Jesus Christ’s teaching of the Lord’s Prayer to his disciples.
We walked to Church of Pater Noster after visiting Dome of Ascension in Mount of Olives. Walk may be around 5 minutes.
It is part of a Carmelite monastery, also known as the Sanctuary of the Eleona.
The Church of the Pater Noster stands right next to the ruins of the 4th-century Byzantine Church of Eleona. The ruins of the Eleona were rediscovered in the 20th century and its walls were partially rebuilt.
Biblical Scriptures
Matthew 6:9-13 New International Version (NIV)
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
Lord’s Prayer in 140 Languages
On walls around the church and its vaulted cloister, translations of the Lord’s Prayer in 140 languages are inscribed on colorful ceramic plaques.
